Translated to ‘Good view’, Bella Vista Winery sits atop a low hill with a backdrop of uninterrupted landscape.  As you drive up you might be met by a waddling of ducks making their way slowly across the driveway, or a raft of them moseying in the pond next to the driveway.   There are plenty of good views as you drive up to Bella Vista, but even more as you explore the rest of the property.

A view can only be improved with a good glass of wine and Bella Vista does just this.  It is the sister winery to Hidden Lakes Winery in Aviston, IL (read about it here Hidden Lake, Welcoming Wine ), so some of the wines you enjoy at one, you can enjoy at the other!  The atmosphere at Bella Vista is just as soothing and the views are just as nice.

The Wine:

Ruby Rosé is one of Bella Vista’s lighter wines.  A rosé is created when the juice of the grapes spend a little more time in contact with the skins.  Bella Vista’s spends just enough time to create a garnet hue.  The palette feel is a light to medium body with notes of citrus and summer berry.

The Chambourcin is deep and rich, full bodied red that has touches of blackberry and dark fruit with a subtlety of woodsiness (like walking through the woods).  Fairly tannic and full of structure, this is a stand alone wine for me from Bella Vista.

If you are looking for a dry, white wine that has a touch of sweetness for a fulfilling flavor, the Vidal Blanc is just what you need.  Bella has crafted a white that gives you the quiet flavors of citrus paired with peach that rivals a summertime refresher.

The Experience:

Bella Vista, to me, is a place to relax for a nice catch up with friends.  There are enough spaces inside and out where you can enjoy nice conversation as well as ‘good views’.

There is the tasting room which is simplistic in decor, warm and inviting.  With plenty of seating, smaller parties could spread out and not be cloistered if they so choose.  There is also an event space on the opposite side of the bar that looks out onto the property.  If you choose to sit on the back patio, upper deck, then you have a view of the pond.  Make your way down closer to the pond and there is seating around a firepit which is nice for breezy nights.

There is no shortage of views here which lend to your experience at Bella Vista Winery.

My Takeaway:

Take a drive through Maryville, IL (formerly known as a portion of Route 66) and just minutes from downtown you will find Bella Vista Winery.  The property is quietly situated on the top of a small hill and boasts good views, just as its name states.  It is tastefully simple and intentional in providing an atmosphere which is conducive to good moments.

Bella Vista Winery has all the things you want for a nice getaway alone or with a group, as well as options for your events large or small.  It is worth it to take time to enjoy the ‘good views’.
