When you think of quaint and warm, does wine come to mind?  If not, then you should visit Beau Monde Vineyards in Martin, TN.  Beau Monde, which translates to ‘good earth’, is small and mighty with goodness.  From its people to its product, goodness flows.

The drive up, a fine gravel road with a line of trees on one side and a wide field on the other, gives you a sense of ‘coming home’.  As you approach the last tree along the road and look just beyond, you see rows and rows of vines.  Looking ahead and just beyond those vines you will see a small structure that is reminiscent of a mini barn.  One of the newer-style storage sheds that are often used as tiny homes, it is Beau Monde’s tasting room!  Walk up the flagstone pathway and step inside the small shop to experience big flavors and warm personality.

There is seating next to the pathway and on the porch of the tasting room.  To the left of the tasting room is the gazebo where you can relax and sip your choice out of about ten wines.  This small selection is big on taste and excitement.  The range from sweet to dry is a nice round and robust experience.  They offer a tasting of four or eight wines with your option of mixing.

The staff here is very friendly and personable.  I have had a tasting with both of the servers, Mr. Larry and Allison.  Mr. Larry is relaxed and just a kind soul.  Allyson is a listener and a creative spirit.  You can not go wrong with either and that makes the experience worthwhile for sure.  Add good wine and a beautiful location and you have something out of a storybook.

The Wine:

Stan’s Harmony is a wine that is matched in flavor, name and meaning.  It was named in memory of a singer who was a cherished friend of the Beau Monde family.  Its flavor is a harmonious blend of nuances which come from Chambourcin grapes that result in a sweet, fruity blend.

Beau Sweet is the sweetest wine offered by the winery.  Though sweet wines are not my favorite, this one I could definitely accept a glass of.  It is full-bodied and lightly lucious.

Chambourcin Rosé is what I would call a summer wine.  Chill it down to enjoy while sitting on the porch, fanning with an old church fan and it will evoke memories of days gone by.  It is a semi-sweet wine, light and refreshing.

Petite Red is a dark, almost purple dry wine that is simply juicy at the start and through almost the end.  It is peppery at the end which dances on the palate and down the throat but softly, then quickly fades away.  One of my favorites.

The Experience:

I have had the pleasure of visiting Beau Monde Vineyards a couple of times.  Once with a good friend and once alone.  For the time I visited with a friend, Mr. Larry was our wine guide and he and I connected over terroir and the nuances of wine in general.  My friend said that it was great to see the rapport we were building and she was kind enough to just listen as we conversed.

The next time I visited I was served by Allison who was a very kind young lady.  We shared thoughts on wine as well as encouraged each other for our current, respective journeys.

Both times I have walked away feeling like I not only experienced good wine, but also real human connection.  Being from different walks of life, we often overlook our similarities.  At Beau Monde, I believe that just like the roots of their grapevines, their authenticity runs deep.

Tastings:

Tastings consist of four wines for 5$ or all eight for 10$.  To my knowledge at the time of writing this post, Mr. Larry (owner) and Allison are the only two who conduct the tastings, and you just can’t go wrong with either of them.

My Takeaway:

I am one who likes small, intimate gatherings and moments.  So the size of the tasting room alone appealed to me right away.  Even when there is a larger crowd, there is plenty of seating outside to enjoy your glass or bottle and snacks.

As I stated earlier, warm and quaint is what comes to mind when I think of Beau Monde Vineyards.  This lends itself perfectly to their delicious wines.  If you want a moment to yourself or to have a meaningful connection with the wine staff or someone else, Beau Monde is the place to be. It truly is ‘good earth’.
